Three weeks before he was due! I got up with two year old multiple times in the night and was having some mild contractions every ten minutes or so. So I got in the tub at 5am thinking they would go away soon. They didn't but they didn't get any closer together either. At 7:30 we decided Greg should not go to work. I did yoga. I showered and did my hair. Greg took the three younger kids to the store to get diapers, etc. Troy stayed home with me and he got me water and read to me and we played a board game. It was very special and awesome. Paul snuggled me in bed during later contractions. I could tell I was dilated to at least 6cm around noon and felt I should call my midwife. Greg still thought I was hours away. She arrived within twenty minutes. When she checked dilation she said I was about 9cm and that a baby would be here soon. He was born at 1:41 pm. I was squatting and caught him myself. We were in the bathroom where I labored and pushed. I got right into the shower with him. Before that the kids saw me kneeling on the floor holding him seconds after he was born - with the blood and nudity and him being covered in 'white lotion' and kind of purple/blue. It didn't seem to bother them a bit.
I was scared at the beginning of this labor. Really scared. I never had been before. I prayed A LOT. I prayed for the baby. I prayed that I wouldn't be scared. I was blessed with confidence and peace and a very simple birth. God heard and answered my pleading prayers. I know He did.
It was hard. It was painful. It was worth it.
A blog about how much better everything is WITH GOD. Specifically in bearing and teaching children - current emphasis is "Homeschooling With God". But there will be many, many more things for me to learn WITH GOD in this life.
